After 18 years, I finally cut my long hair. When I posted my hair chop reveal photo on Instagram, I received countless DM’s from women saying they’ve been thinking about doing the same thing, and asking what made me finally decide. Here are 5 questions to ask yourself before chopping your hair.
5 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE CHOPPING YOUR HAIR
1. Have you ever had your hair short before? (Even when you were little) If so, did you like it?
2. When your hair is long, do you wear it up all the time, or get annoyed by it always in your face?
3. Do you hate how long it takes you to dry your hair?
4. Does your hair typically grow fast?
5. Do you have anything you need to have your hair long for in the next 9 months?
YOUR ANSWERS
If the answer is YES to most/all of these 5 questions (except #5)…I say, go ahead and chop it! You can always get extensions (clip-in or temporary) if needed. Hair grows at an average rate of 1/2 inch a month. My hairstylist cut off 5 inches, which would mean that it will take me about 10 months to grow it back to it’s original length.
I’d been debating cutting my hair for about 6 months before I decided to go through with it. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably heard me ask my audience whether or not I should do in my Instagram Stories. I’m not a very spontaneous person when it comes to my appearance, but with my wedding coming up next fall, I knew I had to do it now. (I want longer hair for my wedding, so if not now, I’d need to wait until after the wedding). Make sure you only chop it if you are 100% comfortable with the idea!
THE VERDICT
I am SO happy I cut it! Having long hair in the winter in NYC was driving me crazy (flyways, dryness, and flatness, oh my!) and I’m absolutely loving it so far. I’m also SO excited about all the fun outfits, hair accessories, and hats that will look so much chicer with a short cut! Some of my favorites are below:
Have you done a dramatic hair chop before? If so, were you happy you did it? You can see more of the cute ways I’m styling my new short hair on Instagram. Big thank you to Oscar Blandi Salon for my new haircut!
